Nine escape kitchen fire in Vange
A kitchen fire engulfed a house while six adults and three children were sleeping inside.
The occupants managed to escape the property in Swanstead, Vange, shortly before firefighters arrived at about 2.30am today.
Two crews from Basildon used breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish the fire within an hour.
An ambulance attended the scene to treat the occupants for possible smoke inhalation.
An investigation will take place to establish the cause of the fire.
