Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in a Basildon park.

It happened between 4pm and 5pm on Easter Sunday, April 5, in Northlands Park. A teenage girl from Basildon was assaulted after having been playing on the swings. The suspect is described as being aged in his 20s, white, 5ft 6ins tall, wearing a grey tracksuit and black baseball cap.

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the park between 4pm and 6pm on Easter Sunday to contact them with any information they may have.

DI Morgan Cronin said: "The park would have been quite busy at this time of the afternoon. The weather was pleasant and there would have been many families out and about enjoying the bank holiday weekend.

"I am appealing for anyone who saw a man with a younger girl in the park, who may match the description given, to contact my team.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Sexual Offences Investigation Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
