Two people – one just 15 – were arrested after thousands of pounds of heroin and crack cocaine and a “mini-sword” were found in a Basildon park.

A 32-year-old man from London and a 15-year-old boy from Basildon were detained in Gloucester Park, off Cranes Farm Road, by four officers from the Basildon proactive team, based at Pitsea.

Two suspects tried to flee in opposite directions near the fishing lake, but were caught.

One was said to have dumped a black containing 56 coloured wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, estimated to be worth £2,000.

Sgt Ben Woollard said: “One person was detained after a short pursuit. The other discarded a large knife – it was like a mini sword – in a bush. He carried on running for about 400 metres, with us on his tail. We eventually got him.”

Two people were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin. A youth was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife.

Both been released on police bail until October 13.

Sgt Woollard said his team were tipped off by members of the public concerned about drug dealing in the park.

He said: “Intelligence from the community is vital in operations such as these.

I would urge people to report any crime on 101 or, anonymously, via Crimestoppers.

“We will do everything we can to act upon the intelligence which is given to us."
