A GRANDMOTHER has ended ten years of fundraising after helping to raise £300,000.

Joan Neal, 75, of Bruce Grove, in Wickford, had been raising money for a charity set up in memory of her granddaughter, Katie, who died of cancer.

The Katie Trust provided equipment and research for children with medulloblastoma, the rare form of brain tumour which claimed Katie’s life in 1999.

Together with Katie’s parents, Mrs Neal has been raising money for the fund. But Katie’s parents are closing the trust at the end of the year, after achieving their goals.

Mrs Neal held her last fundraising table top sale, in Wickford, at the weekend.

She said: “I am sorry it has finished, but it has been a really big success. I have met a lot of generous people who have helped enormously.

“I am sure Katie would have been pleased with what has been achieved.”
