TEACHERS were in celebratory mood when they were invited to high tea, courtesy of Thurrock Council.

The event at the Culver Centre, South Ockendon, was held to celebrate schools’ successes over the past year.

The council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for children’s Services handed out certificates to mark the securing of various quality marks and top Ofsted reports.

Speaking afterwards, councillor Suzanne MacPherson said: “It was a real pleasure celebrating success in this way.

High tea with sandwiches and cake created a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

“Too often our education system is put down which is why we must celebrate this sort of success.

“I wanted to pass on my personal congratulations to everyone there – and to their staffs and to their pupils.”
