TWO leading Southend choirs are about to make the trip of a lifetime, which will include a performance at the Sydney Opera House.

Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs are heading off to Australia and Singapore. The 49 singers, who range from ten to 19, will visit and perform in three of Australia’s major cities – Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns. They will then complete their tour with a two-night stop in Singapore.

In Sydney they will give three performances, including one in the Utzon Room of the Sydney Opera House. They will join with the Sydney Male Voice Choir for this performance.

Moving on to Brisbane, the choir will be hosted by the Queensland Youth Choir, which will be followed by a performance in Cairns.

In Singapore, they will perform with the Anglo Chinese Junior College.

When the Southend Girls’ Choir toured Australia ten years ago, they were awarded a place in the Guinness Book of Records for giving a concert at the highest altitude.
