POLICE are asking people to keep a close eye on empty school buildings over the next six weeks after two break-ins.
The thieves targeted Eastwood School, in Rayleigh Road, Leigh, at 5am today and Westborough Primary School, in MacDonald Avenue, Westcliff overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Insp Dave Colwell, who covers Leigh, wants the public to help the police keep educational establishments safe, by reporting any suspicious activity.
He said: “We have already been working closely with schools to make sure they have locked away equipment in secure locations over the summer.
“However, we are still mindful that they may be a target and will be stepping up high visibility policing to maintain the school security in the area.”
If you see anything suspicious in your area, call 999 in an emergency or call local police officers on 0300 333 4444.
