A MAN who suffered serious head injuries is believed to have been attacked outside his home.

Police were initially baffled as to how the man, who is in his 40s, sustained the horrific injuries.

They had been called to his home in Station Road, Westcliff, by a friend who had gone to visit him on Friday night.

He was in too serious a condition to give a statement and was rushed to Southend Hospital for emergency treatment.

But it is now thought he was attacked near his home before managing to stagger through his front door.

Det Insp Martyn Pinkney [CORR], of Southend police, said: “We are treating it as an assault. We believe it’s happened in the Station Road area.”

The victim remains in hospital in a serious condition. Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious between 9pm on Thursday and 11.30pm on the Friday. Anyone with information should call Southend CID on 0300 3333 4444.
