SERVICES on the c2c line are running again after problems caused by a runaway tent which blew onto a train were resolved.

Trains were disrupted after a marquee at Leigh Regatta blew away in high winds and landed on a train heading for Southend.

The incident happened at around 10am on Saturday on a section of track opposite Leigh beach, and services between Southend and Pitsea were suspended for at least five hours.

Operator c2c had to cancel several services and lay on replacement buses to carry passengers between Southend and Pitsea while engineers cleared the wreckage from the tracks and checked overhead power lines had not been damaged.

A spokesman for c2c said the line had reopened at around 1.30pm but said services were affected until around 3pm.
