THIRTY new jobs will be created at a taxi firm after it won a £1million taxi contract serving Southend Airport.
Andrews Taxis, which covers Southend and Rochford, beat competition from several national taxi companies to secure the exclusive right to provide private-hire cars for the expanding airport.
Bosses at the firm now plan to start a recruitment drive for new drivers, controllers and admin staff to cope with the predicted boost to business.
The airport is in the middle of a multi-million pound expansion to increase the number of passengers passing through its doors to two million a year by 2020.
As well as a new control tower and railway station on the National Express line, bosses hope to open their £10million terminal building later this year.
Budget airline easyJet is due to start flights to at least eight overseas destinations in April, in addition to existing flights to Ireland run by Aer Arann.
