YOUNGSTERS checked out just how generous shoppers can be by holding a fundraising bag-packing event.
A group of 12 teenagers from Billericay School raked in £1,600 over two days by packing shopping for customers at Waitrose, in High Street, Billericay.
The fundraiser was organised by the students in a bid to raise money towards their forthcoming trip to Argentina.
Organiser Daniel Durso, 17 said: “We asked people for a small donation to pack their bags and for us to take them to their car.
“We found that people were really generous and we soon saw our fundraising buckets being filled up with notes as well as coins.
“We will be trekking across Argentina for three weeks in April and we plan to do some community work while we’re out there, working with students in different towns across the country.”
The pupils, who need to raise £3,000 individually and a further £2,500 as a group for their trip, are now planning a quiz night at their school in School Road in February and possibly another bag-packing day at Easter.
