CONCORD manager Danny Cowley wants his players to learn from a number of high-profile FA Cup shocks over the weekend and not underestimate Wroxham when they visit the Aspect Arena tonight for a Ryman league cup quarter-final clash.

The Beachboys are fourth and flying in the Ryman Premier at the moment, and they come into the game on the back of Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing of Bury Town.

The Yachtsmen lost 2-1 at Thamesmead Town on Saturday and are 18th in Ryman One North.

But Cowley said shock FA Cup wins for Luton against Norwich and Oldham against Liverpool underline how nothing can be taken for granted in knock-out competitions.

He said: “Wroxham knocked us out of the FA Cup last season and they’ve been promoted to Ryman One North. “They have some ex professionals in their side and we will not underestimate them.

“We saw from the weekend’s FA Cup games that lower league clubs love to knock higher league teams out from cup competitions, and I hope our players have taken that lesson on board.”

Cowley was delighted with Saturday’s win at Bury on a difficult playing surface. He said there were top performances throughout the side and praised captain and top scorer Tony Stokes for his display after he was moved back from attack into midfield.

He said: “Tony’s the top scorer in the league so we still plan to use him up front where he does so much damage.

“But with Nicky (Cowley) suspended and Jack Lampe ruled out with a health concern, we needed to re-jig things a bit, and I thought our front two Harry Elmes and Jason Hallett were unplayable at times.

“But we still have potentially 26 games to play in the next three months so it’s great to have that flexibility in our squad, and the fact that Tony willingly fills in like that for us shows just what a terrific team player he is.”

Cowley continues his suspension against Wroxham tonight, they’ll be a late fitness check on Lampe, and Leon Gordon is cup tied.

This is a fixture which has already been postponed twice because of the bad weather and then Wroxham’s failure to travel in the bad weather, but hopes were high yesterday that it will finally take place tonight.

Kick-off at the Apsect Arena in at 7.45pm.
