Hullbridge teenager Liam Nash nets a hat-trick for Norwich City during trial
HULLBRIDGE teenager Liam Nash scored a hat-trick in a trial for Premier League side Norwich City after being spotted playing in a local reserve game.
The 17-year-old striker scored a volley, a penalty and a neat finish as he turned out for a young Canaries side against a Chelsea Academy team at Carrow Road.
He got the chance after a scout watched him score a hat-trick for Hullbridge Sports at Clacton in an Essex Senior League reserve match, and says it has opened some interesting doors for him.
“They were impressed with me and it was a good experience,” he said.
“I played for 60 minutes and scored a hat-trick in the first half, so it went well.
“I was in a side made up mainly of Norwich academy players, but there were others there for a trial, some from as far away as Liverpool.
“I did as well as I could, but they’ve recently signed a striker who’s played for England, otherwise they said they would have signed me there and then.
“But the guy in charge, Sam Bayford, contacted other teams about me and I’ve had other interest since.
“They are big sides too, and I went to train with one the other day, so hopefully something will come of that.”
It is Nash’s second season with Essex Senior League side Hullbridge, but he has not featured under new manager Dan Braney yet this term.
He played for the first team last year, including an outing against Southend United in the county cup, and now wants to establish himself in the senior game.
