Harrison Chatting back with a bang for Canvey Island
HARRISON Chatting took just 22 minutes to score in his first start of the season as Canvey beat Leiston 2-0 on Tuesday evening.
The Gull’s winger opened the scoring away at Victory Road in the Ryman Premier League after Rio Bryan-Edwards knocked down Sheldon Sellears’ free kick into his path.
And a powerful shot from defender Rob Bartley in the 58th minute following another Sellears free kick made sure of the three points.
Chatting, who before Tuesday had only made four substitute appearances as he progresses on the comeback trail from injury, said it was good to get a start and goal under his belt.
“To get my first goal of the season on my first start is great,” said Chatting, who was subbed in the 79th minute.
“I don’t think it was my best performance if I’m honest but I still got a goal and sometimes that is just the way it goes.
“Now I’ve got my first start, I just hope to continue to carry it on and build up to a full 90 minutes, but I am taking it game by game.”
The win was Canvey’s first in three league games after suffering losses at home to Billericay and away at Dulwich.
Gulls boss Danny Heale said his side’s win was thoroughly deserved especially as he believes they should have come away with more from their previous two matches.
Heale said: “I’ve been saying for the last few weeks that we’ve been playing really well, but we have not been getting the rub of the green.
“The performances have been there but it is the results that haven’t. But I kept saying to the guys we just had to keep doing what we are doing.
“I was pleased with the Leiston game because we were strong, physical and solid and we got what we deserved at last.”
