Concord Rangers suffer late collapse at Weston
12:28pm Monday 21st October 2013 in Sport
A LATE collapse left Concord with a miserable journey home from the seaside after they were walloped by Weston.
The Beachboys will now be looking to lick their wounds at home to Waltham Abbey in the Essex Senior Cup tomorrow night before manager Danny Cowley turns his attention to Saturday’s massive FA Cup trip to Edgar Davids’ Barnet.
Injuries and the suspension of key midfield man Sam Collins did not help Concord’s plight, but it did not excuse their collapse, which saw them concede three goals in the last 10 minutes.
It did not look like a 5-0 game when Naby Diallo struck two minutes before the interval to give the Seagulls a slender advantage at the break.
And there seemed no need to panic unduly when Dayle Grubb’s screamer early in the second half doubled the hosts’ advantage.
But Alec Fiddes’ third 10 minutes from time, followed by a 25-yarder from Martin Slocombe and an injury-time penalty from Kane Ingram put a gloss on the score-line which made Concord’s 180-mile journey back from Somerset to Essex a long one.
