CONCORD boss Danny Cowley admitted the timing of tonight’s match with Chelmsford was “typical” after he was offered the Clarets’ manager’s job last week.

Cowley was interviewed for the position but decided to stay with a Concord side he has taken from the lower reaches of the non league game and into Conference’s national set-up.

That paved to the way for Chelmsford to appoint former Heybridge Swifts boss Mark Hawkes as their new manager, and he started with a morale-boosting 3-1 win over Farnborough on Saturday.

Cowley said: “It’s typical the fixture list has now playing Chelmsford twice this month, but that’s how it goes.

“It was a good result for them on Saturday and Mark has obviously gone in and made an impact straight away.

“This was always going to be a hard match, but I’m sure now we will be facing a different Chelmsford from the one we would have faced a few weeks ago.”

Chelmsford’s win on Saturday came courtesy of goals from Sam Long, Joe Ward and former Concord man Bertie Brayley.

Concord drew 2-2 at Chelmsford in the league in their second game of the season and the teams will meet in the return Skrill South fixture on December 28.
