LATE goals from Rio Bryan-Edwards and Jay Curran saw Canvey get back to winning ways in the Ryman Premier League.

Danny Heale's men were not at their fluent best against Margate but were still able to take three points in a display which was marked by a solid defensive performance.

The visitors looked better on the ball for large parts of the match but were left with few chances on goal as Rob Bartley and Nick Humphrey in particular stood firm.

Up the other end Canvey struggled to keep the ball but were creating chances with Sheldon Sellears going close in the first half when his 17th minute strike went over the bar.

Both sides cancelled each other out in the second half until the 75th minute when John Sands sent a shot crashingk onto the bar.

Six minutes later Bryan-Edwards gave the hosts the lead when he got onto the end of a Harrison Chatting free kick and fired the ball into the back of the net.

In the 87th minute the win was assured when Sands was judged to have been brought down by Nikki Bull and the Margate goalkeeper was given a red card.

Curran then slotted the ball past Mitchell Nelson who was forced to change from right back to goalie infront of 406 fans in the stadium.
