GREAT Wakering Rovers are two wins away from the Essex Senior League title.

Rovers played their final home match of the campaign on Tuesday night, hitting six for the second time in a week as they beat London Bari 6-1.

It meant they completed their season at Burroughs Park unbeaten in the league and they received more good news when the result of the match between the two teams directly below them filtered through.

Haringey Borough beat Enfield 1893 2-0 which means no team can now catch Wakering, as long as they win their last two games, at Greenhouse London on Saturday and at Basildon United on the final day a week later.

Lewis Sparrow got two first half goals for Wakering against Bari with the visiting keeper netting an own goal.

Joe Skeels, Stuart Hepburn and Jay Nash got Rovers’ goals in the second half.

Elsewhere in the Essex Senior League, there were fine wins from Bowers & Pitsea and Hulbridge Sports.

Bowers thrashed Tower Hamlets 5-1 with both sides reduced to 10 men early on. Bowers’ Bradley Webb and Luke With were both given their marching orders for an altercation before the visitors took the lead through Richard Johnson.

James Clarke equalised to make it 1-1 at half-time before Bowers ran away with it in the second half.

Lorenzo Ramsey scored twice, his first a delicate lob, Clarke got his second of the game and Calvin Poku got the fifth.

Hullbridge were good money for their 2-0 win at Sawbridgeworth.

Rob Lacey twice went close to giving Sports the advantage before he eventually did convert two minutes before the interval after good work from Dean Wallace.

They made it 2-0 a few minutes later when Liam Nash doubled the advantage.

Southend Manor’s disappointing season continued as they lost 2-0 at home to Takeley.
