LOCAL teams battled it out for the right to be the best in the area at the South Essex Primary Mini Soccer League finals.
Benfleet Youth Leopards, Rayleigh Boys Tigers and Corringham Cosmos Lions were the winners on the day, each lifting a trophy for the success in their category.
Benfleet Youth Leopards took on Trinity Lions in the first game of the day in the Leopards under-10s cup. In a tight encounter it was Benfleet that took the win 1-0.
The Tigers U10 cup final proved to be just as close, with the clash between Rayleigh Boys Tigers and Meadway Colt Lions going to extra time. The Rayleigh side won 2-1 after the extra period.
The final game of the day saw Corringham Cosmos Lions beat Concord Rangers Lions 2-0 at Burrough’s Park, the home of Great Wakering Rovers.
The finals will move to a different venue next year, after 15 years at the same pitches due to changes in FA regulations for next season.
