ALEX Woodyard is relishing the chance to rebuild his career with Concord Rangers this season.

The 21-year-old former Southend United midfielder scored twice for the Beachboys in their 5-0 win against Halstead Town in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

And he is now looking to keep that fine formgoing when the Canvey based club travel to Ryman Division One North side Maldon & Tiptree tonight.

“It’s great to be back in this area, because it’s where it all first started for me and I’m very happy to have joined Concord,” said Woodyard.

“I know the manager here, Danny Cowley, has wanted me to sign for a little while and I’ve heard really good things about him.

“I’m looking forward to working with him and when the chance came up to come here it was a no brainer for me really.

“It’s a really good chance to get things going again for me.”

Woodyard came through the youth ranks with Southend and made 15 appearances for the first team.

However, he was released at the end of the 2012/13 season and spent last term with Dartford.

He played 36 games with the Conference club and now wants to try and help Concord reach that level of the game.

“I’ve only been here a little while but I’ve already been impressed by everyone,” said Woodyard.

“I don’t want to say too much and put us under pressure but it would be great if we could try and push for the play-offs.”

Conference South side Concord will continue their preparations for the forthcoming season tonight against Maldon who have signed midfielder Ben Sartain from Basildon United.

Ryman Premier League side Canvey Island are also in action at home to Burnham Ramblers tonight.

The Gulls were beaten 4-1 by Dover at the weekend.
