CONCORD Rangers boss Danny Cowley says he wants to add Jordan Chiedozie to his squad after the striker impressed on trial.

Chiedozie came off the bench to net the Beachboys equaliser against Maidstone United on Saturday with a very composed finish.

The 20-year-old came on at half-time after a laboured first-half display which saw them create very little against their Ryman Premier League rivals. However, the pace of Chiedozie and the leadership of Nicky Cowley, who also came on at the break, gave Concord a lift and they equalised after 54 minutes. Chiedozie timed his break to perfection after a ball over the top and, from a narrow angle, squeezed the ball past the onrushing keeper.

After the 1-1 draw, Cowley said the striker, formerly of Bournemouth, was just what his side needed.

“Jordan made an impact,” said the Concord Rangers manager. “He gives us something a bit different, has very quick feet and is quick off the mark as well. He wants to score goals and knows how to score goals. I am sure Jordan would do well at this level.

“We are looking for him to improve his team-work a little bit. It is all about the collective here and he knows that. I am sure that will come out in the next game.”

Chiedozie has a good grounding in the game. His father, John, was a Nigerian international footballer, winning nine caps for the Super Eagles and playing more than 400 times for Leyton Orient, Notts County and Tottenham Hotspur.

Cowley was also running the rule over Bagasan Graham, ex-Chelmsford City, and Alex Teniola, formerly of Tonbridge Angels, with Graham testing the Maidstone keeper on a number of occasions.

Cowley also reserved praise for youth-team player Riggers Kabashi, who he said would be knocking on the first-team’s door this season.

“Riggers is one to watch without a doubt. He has developed very well in our youth set-up and I want to see him with the first-team squad this year. I think he is ready to step-up.

Concord are still without Lewis Taaffe, Paul Goodacre, Gary Ogilvie and Sam Collins but they will rejoin the squad in the next fortnight.

Concord continue their pre-season at home to Southend United on Wednesday.
