CANVEY’S teenage star Jessica Judd will line up in her second major final of the summer at the European Championships on Saturday.

The 19-year-old ran a strong race to finish third in her semi-final on Thursday night to book her place in the 800m final in Zurich which comes just two weeks after she finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games.

Judd said: “I am so happy, especially after the disappointment in Moscow (last year where Judd was knocked out of the World Championships in the heats).

“To make two major finals this year is just unbelievable.”

Judd shadowed her British team-mate and the reigning European champion Lynsey Sharp throughout last night’s semi-final before finishing third in the final qualifying spot in 2m 1.53s.

A day earlier she said her legs had felt heavy in her first round race, but 24 hours laterm the former Castle View School pupil said she felt much more like herself.

“I did feel much better than on Wednesday which is good," she said.

“Everyone in the final tomorrow has had experiences of Olympics and World Championships so to be among them and in the final is amazing.”

Scottish star Sharp, who won the semi-final, will arguably be the favourite for Saturday’s final.

And she was delighted that Judd will join her on the start line.

“Me and Jess have raced a few times this year and, at the end of the day, she is just another competitor," she said.

“But I had a look at 300m to go and saw it was Jess next to me and thought this would be really good for the British public watching two British girls in the final.”

Saturday's final will take place at 3.15pm and will be screened live on BBC1.
