FA CUP

ROB Small completed a memorable week in cup competitions by setting up an FA Cup encounter with his old boss.

The BOWERS & PITSEA manager watched his side score a late winner through Luke Wilson to hand the club a pay day of £1,925 and a home tie against Witham Town – only days after beating Basildon United in the Essex Senior Cup.

And that means Small will come face-to-face with Garry Kimble, the man who managed him at Burnham Ramblers in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

Wilson netted the winner with minutes left on the clock to put Small’s side in the next round for the first time since 1999 – when they were still Bowers United.

GREAT WAKERING ROV-ERS were involved in a topsy-turvy game at Hertford Town but were the losers in a five-goal thriller.

Jay Nash netted his third goal of the season after only 12 minutes to put Rovers ahead but they were pegged back only three minutes later.

It got worse for Dan Trenkel’s team and Stuart Hepburn put through his own net to give the hosts the lead on the half hour mark.

Not to be denied Nash levelled the scores before Rovers conceded again with 15 minutes left to send them out of the competition.

BASILDON UNITED were beaten by Thurrock rivals Aveley at Mill Field.

Manager Colin Cook saw his side beaten at home by rivals Bowers earlier in the week and watched Justin Gardner’s side score at important points to take the game away from them.

Billy Coyne netted moments after the break and, as Basildon looked to find a way back, Theo Ola netted with seconds to go.

l In the Essex Senior League Cup Southend Manor were beaten 4-1 at Tower Hamlets.
