CONCORD Rangers boss Danny Cowley has said his team need to show more of their fighting spirit in their bid to become an “established Conference South club”.

The Beachboys battled back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 at home against Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday night, although had taken a 3-2 lead before conceding a late equaliser.

The point saw Concord stretch their unbeaten run to four matches, although the last three of those have been draws.

And Cowley said his side have to take inspiration from last season, where they were able to turn losing positions into winning ones on a number of occasions.

“We have not got the points our performances deserve in recent weeks,” said the Beachboys manager. “We didn’t deserve to be two goals down against Bishop’s Stortford but this group of boys will never give up and that is one of our biggest strengths.

“We are showing that we are able to match sides and push them all the way in each and every game. And I am confident we will continue to do that.”

Cowley also praised Jordan Chiedozie, who scored twice on Tuesday, having signed for the club in the summer.

“Jordan was a great addition for us and he has scored three times in the last two games, including two headers. So if we are creating chances for him I have the confidence in him to score. He must now find that consistency to his game.”

This Saturday marks the last Concord game for two weeks. They were due to play Salisbury City next weekend, but the club were kick out of the division after they failed to pay outstanding debts.

Their next match will be in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round on Saturday, September 27, and Cowley hopes to have a few players back from injury by then.

“We should be a bit stronger come FA Cup weekend. The problem is, when you have a squad this small, two or three injuries results in a crisis but we understand that.

“We are just looking to survive at this level and be competitive in each match. So far we have done that.”
