FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round

AFC Hornchurch 1-1 East Thurrock United

LEWIS Smith made it two goals in two against his former club to ensure an FA Cup replay against AFC Hornchurch.

AFC Hornchurch took the lead in this encounter but only four minutes later Smith scored his third of the campaign to peg the Urchins back.

The first chance of the match fell to Mitchell Gilbey but he shot over the top when well placed and soon after the hosts struck.

Former Billericay Town man Junior Luke and Tobi Joseph worked well to free George Purcell and he scored beyond the dive of Rocks keeper David Hughes.

Purcell found the nets moments once again but he was deemed offside and John Coventry’s side hit back minutes later.

The ball came to Smith in the box and his snapshot trickled in to Sam Mott’s dismay.

Hornchurch saw a shot cleared off the line and Purcell hit the crossbar although Sam Higgins missed a chance to give the visitors the lead.

The home side hit the post with seconds to go but Rocks survived to force a replay at Rookery Hill on Tuesday.
