BILLERICAY Town midfielder Jack Edwards has targeted an impressive home run as the club bid to return to winning ways.

Edwards joined the club from Southend United in the summer, having failed to make an impression on Blues’ first team, but is now enjoying his best run in the side this season.

The in-form midfielder has started the last three matches and says he wants to contribute to making New Lodge a fortress, with the next four matches at home, starting with tomorrow’s game against Wingate & Finchley.

“Starting the last three has given me a real boost,” said the 19-year-old, “and I think I have fitted in quite well.

“The last two league matches didn’t go our way (defeats to Bognor Regis Town and Bury Town) but there is enough in this squad to put a run together and reverse those score lines in the coming weeks.

“We are back at home now and this is a game that we need to win. We always look to win our matches but if we win this game we will head into the Canvey match with a lot of confidence.”

Billericay host fierce rivals Canvey Island on Monday, looking to avenge last season’s 4-1 thumping at the hands of the visitors. Edwards and Seedy Njie (who also played together at Southend) will come face-to-face with former Blues team-mates Marlon Agyakwa and Aaron Tatham on Monday and Edwards says he can not wait to be part of the occasion.

“It will be my first taste of the derby and I am looking forward to it,” he said. “I have heard a lot about the rivalry so I want to get involved and show what I can do.

“We want to make New Lodge a ground where other teams fear coming and we have a chance with this run of games to make that happen.”

Craig Edwards’ men take on Raynes Park Vale in the FA Cup after the Canvey match before hosting Enfield Town a week on Monday.

And Edwards says since leaving Southend he has been made to feel part of the group, with senior players including Glenn Poole and Richard Halle helping him settle in.

“I enjoyed my time at Southend United but to be getting first-team experience is massive for me. I am having a good time with the boys on the pitch and they have made me feel very welcome.

“We have some good centre-midfielders at the club and I want to repay the manager’s faith and keep doing well.”
