Billericay Town 2-3 Wingate & Finchley

A LAST minute goal condemned Billericay Town to their third defeat in a row against WIngate & Finchley.

Craig Edwards’ side had lost back-to-back games in the league before the clash and Edwards handed a debut to Bishop’s Stortford midfielder Harry Baker as he looked to turn around the poor run of results.

And it started well for Town. Skipper Rich Halle opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes for the home team but that lead only last eight minutes.

Former Thurrock and Billericay hitman David Knight equalised from the penalty spot before 15 minutes had been played and from that point it was the visitors who made the running.

Ex-Town striker Tommy Tejan-Sie was on the mark with 30 minutes on the clock to put Wingate into the lead and that was how it stayed until the ever reliable Glenn Poole brought Town level.

But, as they did against Bognor Regis Town, Billericay conceded a late goal having pulled themselves back into the game.

And it was super-sub Niko Muir who was the hero this time - popping up the secure the points for the visiting team, 60 seconds after taking to the field.

The defeat leaves Town in 7th position ahead of their crunch derby with Canvey Island tonight, with both sides in desperate need of the points.
