DANNY Cowley says Concord Rangers will be firing on all cylinders as they look to progress in the FA Cup tonight.

Concord host Wealdstone at the Aspect Arena after they drew 1-1 at the weekend, thanks to a last gasp header from Joe Gardner, and will be keen to ensure their progress as they strive to reach the first round proper.

The winner of the tie will fancy their chances in the third qualifying round, where they will host either Winchester City or Newport IW, who both play three tiers below the Conference South outfits, in the Wessex Premier League.

But Danny Cowley says his side will need to improve if they are to reach that stage.

“We didn’t reach our levels,” said Cowley. “We hadn’t played for a few weeks and wanted to preserve our unbeaten run but we knew how tough the match was going to be.

“We weren’t aggressive enough in the first half but we dominated in the second half so deserved our goal.”

The Beachboys manager praised his side’s “never-say-die” attitude and added he looks forward to Concord’s games against Wealdstone.

The matches have an added spice since Concord’s promotion winning campaign two years ago, in which unsavoury scenes at the end of the match involving supporters marred Wealdstone’s victory.

And Cowley said he believes that clash inadvertently helped push them to play-off success.

“I believe it did help us,” said Cowley. “We conceded a last minute goal in that match and used it as focus to help us up.

“Wealdstone deserve to be in this division so we look forward to another close game tomorrow.”

Cowley said the only injury doubt for tonight’s game is top-scorer Jordan Chiedozie, who is nursing an ankle knock, and the manager says the manner of the draw gives Concord an added boost heading into the match.

“We managed to drag this one back from the dead so we head into it with nothing to lose.

“We need to be a bit more physical and I am confident we can qualify.”
