OLYMPIAN LEAGUE: Rayleigh Town narrowly avoided a cup upset after they came from behind to beat rivals White Ensign in the Senior Division Cup.

A Chris Lewis hat-trick, including two strikes in the final five minutes, ensured the defending champions progress. This was after Billy Crumpton and Hamid Zamani had put the away side in the driving seat before the Rayleigh comeback.

In the Premier Division, Hannakins Farm came out on top in an 11-goal classic against Newbury Forest.

Hannakins were heavy favourites going into the game but struggled against their plucky opponents, who started the day second bottom, falling behind after 10 minutes.

The home team equalised before Newbury Forest regained their lead and came back to tie the game at 3-3 after goals from Mark Jones and Luke Skinner had put the hosts in control.

But further goals from Danny Young and Anthony Aylett, with Jones and Skinner grabbing a brace apiece saw Hannakins climb to third.

In Division One, Leigh Ramblers climbed to within three points of the top after a 3-2 win against Westhamians. Seb Allen, Max Corrigan and Jamie Selby-Knight scored the Leigh goals.

Herongate Athletic secured their first point of the new campaign after grabbing a point against fourth placed Harold Hill.

Anton Dwyer scored a penalty for Herongate but they remain at the foot of the table.

Old Southendian sit mid-table after a comfortable 3-0 win over struggling Ongar Town.

A terrific hat-trick from Stuart Paton eased Benfleet to an impressive win over Basildon Town in Division Two.

Connor Walk added gloss to the scoreline in the 4-1 win.

A hat-trick from Nathan Dewberry saw Rochford Town run out easy winners over Debden Sports. Ben Smith (two) and Lee Anderson also got themselves on the scoresheet.

Southend Sports were the big winners on the day in Division Three, winning 10-1 against Stambridge United, a week after firing 10 past the same opponents.

A Sam Lake hat-trick did the damage while braces from Dom Binns and Barv Waiwaiku and a goal from Chris Baddeley put Stambridge to the sword.

It could have been worse had Waiwaiku and Luke Wilson not missed penalties in the match.
