JAMIE Butler says he ‘won’t let injury beat him’ after he was ruled out of the England C squad.

The 22-year-old Concord Rangers goalkeeper had been selected to link up with the Three Lions for next Tuesday’s International Challenge Trophy match against Turkey - his first call-up - but will now miss out after failing to recover from the injury..

Butler was taken off in the FA Cup victory over Wealdstone, after a collision with burly striker Enoch Showunmi, and will now face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

A devastated Butler tweeted on Monday: "From the best news of my life last week to the worst today. Heartbreaking having to withdraw from England squad but won’t let injury beat me!"

Beachboys boss Danny Cowley said the injury, possibly to the posterior cruciate ligament, would rule Butler out for much of this season.

“Football can be an incredibly cruel game,” said Cowley, “I am devastated for him because I know how hard he has worked for this opportunity.

“But he has such a fantastic attitude and is so dedicated to everything he does on the pitch. He is extremely tough and mentally strong and, although he is down now, I have no doubt he will be back better than ever.

Butler watched Concord’s 3-2 defeat to Basingstoke Town with his leg in a brace - the first time he has missed a match in the last four years.

On-loan Queens Park Rangers keeper Aaron Lennox has come in as a short-term replacement but Cowley said he club would need to look at extending that deal.

“He has done well since he’s been here. He kept a clean sheet at Chelmsford and if we can extend the deal we will look down that road.”

Concord have also lost Harry Elmes (leg), Danny Spendlove, Tony Stokes and Nicky Cowley (all knee) to serious injuries in recent seasons.
