IT’S been quite a week for young Great Wakering Rovers striker Scott Clarke.

The 17-year-old made history after becoming the first ever player to net for three separate Rovers sides in the space of seven days.

Clarke scored against Billericay Town last Monday in the League Cup on his first-team debut, before netting against Takeley for the reserve team the following Saturday. He then followed that up with a brace against Redbridge for the under-18s.

And the Southend teenager, who joined the club a year ago, says he has plenty more to offer, and has designs on the first team in the coming months.

“It was really good to get on and score for the first team,” said Clarke, who found the net within a minute of coming off the bench in the 8-2 defeat. “I was told the day before the Billericay match that I would get a chance and I am pleased I was able to score when I got the chance.

“I was nervous but once I got on and scored things were much calmer. I know a few of the players so it was nice for me to be able to experience that level of football.

“It has been an alright week all things considered!”

And the former Thurrock youngster says he has been told by first-team manager Dan Trenkel that he will get more chances in the coming weeks.

“Scott is a natural goalscorer,” said Trenkel. “He is an off-the-shoulder centre forward and has a selfish streak which I like.

“He deserved his chance in the first team and he wasn’t overawed at all. He gets into the right positions and that is encouraging for us.”

Trenkel said it was likely he would get another chance to impress against Romford in the Essex Senior Cup at the end of the month, although said his priority was to ensure Clarke got senior football under his best this season.

“We hope to see him kick on next year,” he added.
