CANVEY Island’s dream of landing a plum FA Cup First Round tie against League One giants Preston North End died on the south coast.
Danny Heale’s men were beaten 3-0 by Havant & Waterlooville.
It was always going to be a tough ask for the Gulls who play in a division below their Conference South rivals.
The two sides drew 0-0 on Canvey on Saturday and could not be separated again in the replay until 10 minutes before the interval when the hosts’ JJ Hooper slotted home.
The Gulls had a mountain to climb two minutes after the re-start when Ben Swallow headed home from a corner to make it 2-0 to Havant.
And the Conference South high-flyers made it 3-0 from the penalty spot courtesy of Scott Donnelly in the 72nd minute to kill off Canvey’s hopes.
