GREAT Wakering Rovers striker Jay Nash says the team will stick to their ball-playing philosophy when Aveley come to town.

The forward has been an ever-present starter in the team this season and has watched Rovers win three and lose three of their last six games, although their final two wins have seen them score ten goals.

Dan Trenkel’s men take on the Millers at Burroughs Park, and Nash says the hosts need to put together a run of form to lift them up the table.

“The results have been up and down,” he said. “But the performances are good and we always try and play football.

“But that was our downfall last week. We tried to play football against Brightlingsea Regent in difficult conditions and we lost. The weather was terrible and we didn’t play the conditions well enough.”

Aveley are on a difficult run, having lost eight of their past 12 matches having won a staggering 11 games on the spin earlier in the season.

But Nash says Great Wakering prefer to focus on themselves, without worrying too much about the opposition.

“We need to look at ourselves,” he said. “If we are making mistakes we need to focus on correcting them and then play the opponents. We played Dereham Town off the park recently and have been hit and miss against some of the lower league teams so we need to be more consistent.”

Nash admitted he was exasperated as his own form in front of goal. He has scored six goals this term but not found the net since September 16 against Tilbury.

“It has been frustrating for me,” said Nash. “It is not a problem as Trenks has told me that I am not being judged on my goals as I am playing in a different position but I still want to score.

“The team is playing well and that is more important.”
