DANNY Cowley has called on Concord Rangers biggest ever crowd to cheer them over the line in their FA Cup First Round replay against Mansfield Town tonight.

As many as 1,500 people could pack the Aspect Arena for the clash, following last week’s 1-1 draw with the League Two side.

Jordan Chiedozie hit a superb equaliser on the night, with the non-league outfit unfortunate not to scrape a win when the same player was denied late on.

And the Beachboys manager has backed his side to rise to the occasion once again, in what will be a cauldron of noise.

“It will be unbelievable,” said Cowley. “I can’t believe the amount of interest it has created. It is great for us to be able to welcome more than 1,000 fans to our stadium will be a great feeling. It is beyond our wildest dreams and it makes us very proud to know we have so many people behind us.

“People recognise good football and we play good football,” he went on. “It has been a very memorable journey and if we can get more people at games because of it, then that has made it even more worthwhile.

“We have to make sure we don’t play the occasion, but we do use it.”

Another man who will be looking to use the occasion will be Stags temporary manager and first team player Adam Murray, who stepped in to replace Paul Cox after he was sacked last weekend.

And, having secured a 1-1 draw with promotion chasers Plymouth Argyle at the weekend, Cowley feels it could be an even tougher game than the last match.

“It is never nice to see a manager lose his job,” said Cowley. “Everyone at the club sends their condolences to Paul Cox. He did so well to get Mansfield into League Two and I read recently he was one of the most successful managers in their history.

“That shows how cruel this game can be. It can be tough and unfair but this is the business.

“When a new manager comes in it seems to give a team a new lease of life,” he said. “They might change their system and philosophy and that is something we need to consider.

“Saying that Adam Murray is an experienced player and their assistant manager so I have no doubt the team that steps out will be a very tough one to beat.

“It was always going to be a tough challenge and it’s just got tougher.”

Concord lost 1-0 at Wealdstone on Saturday, their first defeat in nine matches, but Cowley is confident his side will be ready for the test.

“They know we play away from home,” he said, “but at home we are a very different prospect.

“We will put all our energy and focus into the game. We had them watched and they will be in a good mood after a positive result.

“We are always meticulous in our preparation as always. Every game is important and this is the next game for us. We can’t wait.”
