Great Wakering Rovers 4-1 Soham Town Rangers

From Burroughs Park

Ryman One North

JAY Nash got back on the scoresheet as Great Wakering Rovers eased to a comprehensive victory over Soham Town Rangers.

Rovers ran out 4-1 winners to move eight points clear of the bottom two sides, and the relegation places.

Goals from Nash, Lewis Sparrow, Tom Ranger and Eljay Worrell handed the hosts their third home win of the campaign, with Rangers solitary goal coming from Luke Stanley with ten minutes left on the clock.

Manager Dan Trenkel welcomed back captain Sparrow to the starting eleven, and he proved his worth inside the opening ten minutes.

A foul in the box meant the defender stood up to take the kick and he confidently dispatched it past Enol Ordonez.

Rovers continued to push back the visitors in the first half but were unable to extend their advantage.

Following last weekend’s 3-0 reverse at Brentwood Town Trenkel had told his players this was a must-win match and they came out strongly in the second period.

And when the second goal came, there was delight in the Rovers ranks as it was Jay Nash who got it, notching his first goal since September 16.

Ranger made the game safe for the hosts with a neat finish with 20 minutes to go before the away side grabbed their consolation.

And the versatile Worrell grabbed his side’s fourth of the afternoon to ensure the points would be staying at Burroughs Park.
