HULLBRIDGE Sports face an anxious wait ahead of their crucial FA Vase clash with Great Yarmouth Town tonight.

The match was postponed on Saturday due to Lower Road being waterlogged and moved to tonight. But, despite the efforts of the grounds staff, the match is still in considerable doubt due to the drainage problems at the ground.

If the match doesn’t beat the weather, then Sports will have to make a trip to Great Yarmouth the following Tuesday under FA guidelines.

And a win would see them face Hellenic Premier Division outfit Flackwell Heath in the Fourth Round, after the draw was made yesterday lunch time.

Sports have been dealt a blow after Rory Clark, the scorer of the only goal in their 1-0 win over AFC Rushden & Diamonds, was ruled out due to personal commitments.

It is more than two weeks since Sports won that match and that was the last time Mark Bliss’ men were in league action, after three consecutive matches were postponed.

And Bliss admits this is a worry as, although the players will have been well rested, they could be match rusty and lose some of their sharpness.

Extra training sessions have been put on to compensate for the postponed matches as they prepare for the Eastern Counties League Division One side’s visit.

Neil Hunwicks, media spokesman for Hullbridge Sports, said: “It could be Yarmouth travelling this Tuesday or us travelling next Tuesday, which isn’t ideal for either of us, but we don't make the rules.”
