St Albans City 2-0 Concord Rangers

CONCORD Rangers were comprehensively beaten by a well-organised St Albans City side.

The Beach Boys put in one of their worst performances of the season as they went down to the team they had put out of the FA Cup only three months ago.

St Albans lined up with a new look front line and new men Michael Malcolm and Jamal Lowe were heavily involved, with the former scoring and the latter assisting in the victory.

Concord had started the year on fire, with back-to-back wins in the league lifting them up to mid-table.

City had the ball in the net inside the first ten minutes, with Malcolm’s header being ruled out for offside.

But four minutes later he did score, with the former Tottenham Hotspur youngster scoring through the legs of the on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Josh Vickers after a neat pass from John Frendo.

The hosts doubled their lead just after the half hour mark, when Malcolm beat the offside trap and fed Lowe, who was fouled by Matt Fry in the box.

Frendo stepped up and sent Vickers the wrong way.

Concord failed to test the St Albans stopper Joe Welch until Lewis Taaffe had the best opportunity only for the keeper to block his effort.

Sam Collins conceded another penalty after the break, after his mistimed header had let in Frendo.

But Vickers made a superb double save from the spot to keep the lead at two.
