Boreham Wood 0-0 Concord Rangers

Conference South

CONCORD Rangers pulled another superb result out of the bag, as they picked up a point at league leaders Boreham Wood.

The Beach Boys, who are making a habit of picking up points at the league’s frontrunners, kept another shutout as they continue to climb the table, with goalkeeper Josh Vickers the hero on more than one occasion.

And in the process, Concord edged closer to manager Danny Cowley’s 45-point mark – which he believes will ensure their Conference South status for another season.

Cowley was dealt a blow before the match as midfielder enforcer James White was ruled out, but in came Taylor Miles who had scored a stunning 35-yard winner against rivals Chelmsford City in the week.

The Wood started the brighter, with Vickers keeping out Junior Morias well before Gary Ogilvie’s fierce drive went over the bar from long range.

The Concord keeper’s best save of the afternoon came when Lee Angol burst through, only to be denied by the on-loan Arsenal stopper.

Miles saw a free-kick saved low down before Vickers again denied Angol athletically.

James Russell kept out Ogilvie after he made a smart connection with a dropping ball.

But it was a day for the goalkeepers, with Vickers tremendous in goal, with both sides very complimentary of each other at the final whistle – Wood chairman Danny Hunter paying tribute to Concord’s “very good chairman, very good manager and very good players.”

Concord are now unbeaten in six matches and sit in 10th position, eight points behind Whitehawk, the side in the final play-off place who the Beach Boys take on Tuesday.
