CONCORD Rangers’ Matt Fry says he wants to experience that winning feeling again after helping his team to a second consecutive Essex Senior Cup final.

The 24-year-old scored and kept a clean sheet in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over AFC Hornchurch as the Beach Boys booked their spot in the final once again.

And the former West Ham United, Gillingham, Charlton Athletic and Bradford City defender said reaching another showpiece occasion, their third in three years not including their play-off final triumph in 2012/13, was a great success for the club.

“We really wanted this,” said Fry. “We knew how difficult it would be to get to the final, especially after each draw was made, but we have done it and that is something we should be really proud of.

“I know reaching the final was in the back of a lot of the players’ minds and to get to this point is a massive achievement for the football club. Three finals in three years is no mean feat.

“A lot of players go through their careers having never won anything,” he said. “We’ve won the Ryman League Cup and the Essex Senior Cup and there is nothing quite like that winning feeling.”

Fry opened the scoring in the second half, heading in Sam Collins’ free-kick, with substitute Gary Ogilvie adding a late second.

“I have always wanted to add more goals to my game so it was great to see that one go in and double my tally for the season,” he said. “I was annoyed at myself at half-time because I had shot over when I should have hit the target, so I was pleased to make amends in the second half.”

Fry is in his third spell at the Aspect Arena, having played for them on loan at the end of last term. However, he had no involvement in the Beach Boys’ successful cup run, and he is keen to taste success this year.

“Last year was a funny one for me,” he said. “I came here on loan at the end of last season and played in the league but Goody (Paul Goodacre – now of East Thurrock United) and Kingy (Steve King) has been a big part of that cup run and started the final.

“That was fine but Danny (Cowley - manager) still sat down with me and explained his decision. I had no problem with it and had no doubt we would beat Braintree either.

“ButI have thoroughly enjoyed being a key part of the team this time around.”

The final will be held at Victoria Road, home of Dagenham & Redbridge, on Monday, April 20 at 7:45pm.
