TEN-MAN Concord Rangers claimed an impressive away point at promotion-chasing Basingstoke Town.

The Beach Boys have been impressive against the sides at the top of the league this season and that continued at the Soccer AM stadium, despite Joe Gardner’s red card five minutes before the half-time while the hosts even missed a late penalty.

The home side started the brighter of the two teams, with Concord’s on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Josh Vickers saving from Liam Enver-Marum in the first minute.

Manny Williams was denied by Vickers a minute later before Gary Ogilvie went closest for Concord in the opening exchanges.

The Concord keeper denied Enver-Marum after 15 minutes before the game hit a lull.

Town dominated the first-half and hit the bar five minutes before the break through Chris Flood, after Vickers had saved his initial shot.

Concord were closing in on half-time but five minutes before the break they were reduced to 10 men. Rob Dickie and Joe Gardner went up for a header, with Gardner dismissed for an alleged elbow.

Into the second-half, Taylor Miles shot over before a Sam Collins free-kick caused havoc in the Basingstoke penalty area, before being cleared.

The Beach Boys were getting numbers behind the ball, although it looked as though they would be undone 10 minutes before full-time.

Matt Fry bundled into the back of Enver-Marum nut Luke Williams sent a dreadful penalty high over the bar and out of the ground.
