Wingate & Finchley 0-1 Billericay Town
From the Harry Abrahams Stadium
Ryman Premier League
RICHARD Halle exorcised Billericay Town’s demons with a late penalty to hand them a fine victory at play-off rivals Wingate & Finchley.
The Town captain and skipper stepped up and slotted his 15th goal of an impressive season in a second-half in which the away side had been the better team.
Craig Edwards dropped Glenn Poole, Rowan Liburd and Ricky Sappleton after the midweek loss to Grays Athletic in the Ryman League Cup.
But it was a lackluster first-half performance from both sides, with Joe Wright called upon to make several sides.
Affy Obafemi, having scored in his last two games, led the line well for Town and could have opened the scoring after the break but he was denied.
But Halle stepped up to convert the spot-kick with assurance, his ninth successful spot-kick of term, after Ola Williams was fouled.
The win was Town’s third in a week and leaves them five points off the play-offs with several games in hand on the sides above them.
Billericay Town: Wright, Williams, Nesbitt, Edwards, Halle, Scott, Baker, Melaugh, Obafemi, Ekim, Dunne
