RYMAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Goalkeeper Joe Wright says there is a big belief in the Billericay Town dressing room the side can make the play-offs.

The 22-year-old is a recent addition from Bishop’s Stortford, after Craig Edwards brought him in following the departure of his number one stopper Billy Lumley to Australia.

Wright had lost his place at Stortford after he was ruled out through injury, and having been loaned to Concord Rangers and Welling United, Wright made the move to New Lodge in February.

And he says the team is good enough to make the top five, although says a win against second-placed Hendon is very important.

“This is a big time for the club and there is a really big belief that we can make the play-offs,” he said. “We are playing well and winning games and we are confident of finishing the season well.

“Hendon is a massive game for us and we are confident heading into that one as well. They won’t want to play us at home so we need to make sure we bounce back from Monday and focus on making the top five.”

Hendon will play their fifth match in only 11 days tomorrow and are in fine form, having taken 16 points from the last 18 on offer.

But Town have lost only one of the last 14 home matches in all competitions – Monday’s 3-1 reverse against Maidstone United.

And Wright is confident the players in the dressing room are strong enough to bounce back.

“I know I made the right choice in coming here. It is a great group of boys and is the strongest dressing room I have ever been a part of.

“I knew some of the boys from my time at Stortford (Ryan Melaugh and Harry Baker) so it made sense.”

Winning their games in hand would leave Town in fifth, which 10 teams are battling it out for, and Wright says they want to use this psychological advantage.

“Primarily we need the points,” he said. “It does give us a little boost and we need to make sure we keep pace with a win tomorrow.”
