GREAT Wakering Rovers ran out 3-1 winners at Waltham Abbey to move closer to safety and make it seven points from a possible nine.

Tom Ranger, Lewis Sparrow and Tony Jacobs gave Dan Trenkel's team the points to move Rovers 11 points clear of third-bottom Barkingside.

Rovers started well in the contest and had the lead after only nine minutes. Tom Ranger netted the goal after he broke between two defenders to fire home.

Adam Seal, so often Rovers' saviour this season, had to be at his best to deny James Peagram with Jason Hallett denied soon after by a last-ditch tackle on the goal-line.

10 minutes after the break Abbey were level. Darelle Russell scored after the ball dropped to him in the box and he made no mistake.

But it was two quick-fire goals that took the game away from Abbey. Firstly, captain Sparrow put the visitors in front from a corner and, three minutes later Jacobs netted when he finished well when in space.

Seal still had time to make a sublime penalty save, following his spot-kick save against Tilbury earlier this month.
