CONCORD Rangers manager Adam Flanagan is looking to forge a strong local connection at the club for next season.

The Beach Boys manager has already added Tom Stephen, Conor Gough and Sam Bantick to his squad, all of whom are local, and the addition of Max Cornhill, from Chafford Hundred, means all of Flanagan’s summer signings are from the county.

And he says he is excited by the prospect of the pre-season training, which is only a fortnight away.

“I want to build a team that does have a strong local connection,” continued Flanagan. “We have a lot of players from the area, although that is not to say we won’t look further afield for the right player.

“Max is a great addition for us and fits the bill. He is from Chafford Hundred and will contribute to what we want to achieve next season.”

Concord return to training on Saturday, June 27 and Flanagan admits there are a few more players he wants to add ahead of that date.

“I think it will be important to have a strong squad and not just a strong team this year. It is about what the squad can achieve, and not just the first team.”

One player who will not be part of the squad is Gary Ogilvie, who was not offered fresh terms ahead of the new National League South campaign while Alex Woodyard is currently trialling with a number of professional clubs.

“Gary has been a good servant to this club over many years but I have to base my decision on a number of things,” said Flanagan. “We want to keep our good people in and around the club however and that is not something we are going to change.

“Gary has some life decisions to make and that will play a part in any decisions he makes in the weeks ahead.

“Alex Woodyard is trialling with a number of professional clubs and it might be a struggle to hold onto him. He is speaking to a number of pro clubs at the moment but he is a good player. We would like him to stay and we are talking to him every couple of days but we will see where that one ends up.”
