l Lined up in a 4-2-2 formation

GK – Brian Horne: When I was 16/17 at Canvey I played in a pre-season game against Dagenham and Horney was in goal. He kicked it the length of the pitch, was a real presence and talked really well. Didn't mind a sherbert either and ended up over King’s Club most Thursday's after training, taking me under his wing.

RB – Ashley Miller: He had just been released by West Ham before coming to Concord. All-round game was spot on. Defensively sound and great going forward. I also played with him at Canvey and he was even better.

LB – Ashley Dumas: Great lad, great left foot, great pace. Getting better with age. Always gives you 100 per cent. Needs to lay-off the sunbeds a bit mind.

CB - Ledley King: I played with him between the ages of 12 and 16 as a school boy at Tottenham. He was a man mountain at that age and you could see that he was going to go all the way.

CB – Steve King: Ginger meat head. A great player and leader and I have never seen someone with such a spring. Causes all sorts of problems in the attacking box from set pieces.

CM – Nicky Cowley: One of those lads that you want and have to have in any team if you want to be successful. Fantastic determination and work rate. Likes to boss people about and could play as well.

RM – Luke Chadwick: I played with him for East Anglia Boys growing up and went on tour with him to America to represent England in the USA Cup in 1993. A great player that just glided across the ground. He made me look like a super model as well so I always stood next to him in the team photos.

CM – Joe Cole: I played with this lad while he was on trial as a kid at Tottenham. He ended up going to Arsenal briefly before West Ham finally got him. An unbelievable talent with great feet. He was a cut above the rest with his skill and vision.

ST - Michael Begg: He did all my running for me at Concord. In those days, we both scored more than 80 goals in a season. It just seemed to work and he was a great lad as well.

ST – Peter Crouch: I played with him at Spurs and he was 6ft 5in at the age of 14 so he was a real handful even then! Has gone on to have a great career although he is massively punching with his missus, Abbey Clancy.

LM – Glenn Poole: I grew up playing with Pooley at Spurs. He went on to have a great career in the game and in non-league. He was unreal at his time at Grays in their FA Trophy success in 2006 and it is nice to link up with him now as well after bringing him to Canvey in the summer.
