BILLERICAY Town manager Craig Edwards described his side’s 6-0 win over Met Police as “incredible”, just three days after labelling a performance as “spineless”.

Town romped to their biggest league win since March 2012 on Tuesday night, with six different scorers helping them go some way to erasing the showing in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Goals from Mike Fondop, Teddy Nesbitt, Cliff Akurang, Alex Stephenson, Onome Sodje and Shane Cojocarel saw them win only their second match in 11, and lift them from 20th to 14th in the Ryman Premier League.

And Edwards said he was pleased for the players who stuck in there and gave their all.

“I decided on Monday to go back to basics and I think that worked for us. It may not have been pretty at times but it brought the best out of our players.

“The performance was incredible as getting that kind of turnaround in a few days is not easy. We were at zero on Saturday but the boys were over the moon to get the result on Tuesday and so they should be.

“That said it is just one game and we need to focus on the next one now.”

Edwards played new additions Fondop, a 6ft 3in Cameroonian striker, and on-loan Reading teenager Andy Rinomhota, and said they brought something else to the team.

“Mike is a character,” said Edwards. “He is raw but he scores goals and we have been lacking that this season. Andy came in and did well as well and there were good performances all around. Louis Godwin-Green played very well in goal so I am delighted for them all.

“More than that I am pleased for the supporters,” he added. “We owed them that and I am glad the fans that stuck with us were rewarded with that display.”

Town head to Lewes on Saturday, another side who have struggled in the early weeks, and Edwards says he is confident of another positive result come the weekend.

“Everyone was down on Saturday and we had to put that right. We were given a major boost when (defender) Joe Ellul declared himself fit but we still had a lot of players out.

“We will have four key players back on Saturday and we will be in an even stronger position then, although dropping anyone will be hard after this.”
