FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

CONCORD Rangers are out of the FA Cup after a late winner condemned them to defeat against Wingate & Finchley.

Concord had a fine run in this competition last year, navigating three qualifying rounds to set up a first round tie at Mansfield Town, who they earned a replay against before losing 1-0.

This season’s journey started at Wingate, a side who had enjoyed a positive start in the Ryman Premier League. But it was Concord that came steaming out of the blocks.

Inside the first 60 seconds, Steve Cawley burst forward and his effort was kept out well by the home stopper, only for Tony Stokes to notch from the rebound.

However, they were unable to push on and were pegged back just 15 minutes later. The ball dropped to Tommy Tejan-Sie and he buried an effort past Ben McNamara.

Both sides exchanged chances as the tie hung in the balance but the home team dealt a decisive blow to Concord’s ambitions with the final whistle impending.

Karl Oliyide scored the winner with just three minutes remaining, with Ola Sogbanmu bursting through the midfield to set up the former who finished neatly.
