THE PREVIEW: Canvey Island are searching for their third win on the bounce after Saturday’s thumping 6-2 win at Farnborough.

The Gulls had Tambeson Eyong to thank for a superb hat-trick and they will be looking for more inspiration from the marauding midfielder against a side buoyed by a fine result at the weekend.

Wingate beat Canvey’s rivals Concord Rangers in the FA Cup and are sitting sixth in the standings ahead of the match this evening.

Canvey lost the corresponding fixture 2-0 last season and will be looking to division top scorer Martin Tuohy (10) for more inspiration tonight.

WHAT HE SAID: Gulls manager Danny Heale said: “We beat Wingate on the final day of last season to stay up and that was a good day for us and, although we lost 2-0 at their place, I thought we battered them in the other match too.

“We have a lot more experience this time and they are coming off the back of a good result so I think it should be a good game.

“We got our rewards on Saturday and deserved the result. I am a bit disappointed with the goals we conceded but we showed good character to score three more at the end of the game.

“Tambeson Eyong played centrally on Saturday and did very well so he could well play there again tonight.”
