Billericay Town 2–3 Staines Town

From New Lodge

Ryman Premier League

A LATE penalty saw Billericay lose their first match in four against a rejuvenated Staines Town.

Billericay were beaten 3-2 by Staines at New Lodge and, having already equalised twice, were unable to do so a third time thanks to Pat Cox’s fine treble.

Billericay had been in fine form and were looking for their fourth consecutive victory, albeit against another side on a good run.

Staines were seven unbeaten in league and cup and they were the side that started on the front foot.

The first chance saw the first goal, and it was Cox who scored it. Ashley Lodge sent in a cross and Cox flicked the ball towards goal, with Jack Giddens unable to keep the ball out.

Billericay responded, with Cliff Akurang denied from close range, but man of the moment Mike Fondop did find the net soon after.

Fresh from five goals in three matches, Fondop broke through and hammered home emphatically.

Jack Turner needed to be at his best to keep out Loui Hazlewood as Town looked to end the half on a high, although Staines did get to half-time on level terms.

The second-half started slowly, although Fondop was looking the most likely outlet once again. The striker came the width of the post away from putting Town back in front, after a marauding run.

But Staines scored the next goal as the game finished with a flourish. A fine volley from Cox beat Giddens all ends up but back came Town once again, with Hazelwood finding his range this time.

The midfielder pinged a fine effort beyond the goalkeeper and into the corner.

But Cox had the last laugh, as substitute Ola Williams brought down Luke Wanadio and the striker completed his hat-trick.
