BASILDON United and Southend Manor are both in today’s FA Vase draw.

A win for the Bees and a 1-1 draw for Manor means both will feature in the first qualifying round draw, with a single goal enough for Basildon.

Craig Gillam’s men beat Wivenhoe Town 1-0, with a goal from Fayad Nyanja enough to see them safely through, and pocket £2,500 in the process.

Basildon could have added to their advantage against the team from the Eastern Counties first division, but a string of fine saves kept the score at 1-0, and that proved enough.

Manor couldn’t break down Hadley in extra-time, meaning a replay on Thursday, with three red cards and a missed penalty all part of a thrilling game.

Wayne Seal’s men had gone behind early on, but Steve Solarin levelled things up. Brennon Nolan and Isaac Aubynn were dismissed for the hosts and it seemed as though that would cost them.

Hadley were awarded an injury-time penalty but it was missed, and Manor boss Seal was full of praise for his players, albeit not the officials.

“The officials ruined it for both teams,” he said. “But I am so proud of effort and work rate shown by the players to grind out the result.”
